It’s personal, creative, and entirely under your control.

Discover How Turning Your Experience Into a Story Can Set You Free

About Me

I’m Harry Rob Bruner. I was in The Sri Chinmoy Centre - an eastern religious meditation sect - for over 20 years, starting when I was just 12. In fact, my aunt started the organization.  I finally left in my early 30s after realizing my life would never be my own as long as I stayed.  I dove into therapy, personal growth work,  studied psychology and became a registered counsellor.  Then I started to follow my true passions - writing, acting, music and performing.

Why I Do This Work

What helped me integrate my experience most deeply was writing and performing my own solo show, "Nephew of the Universe", which is now being developed into a documentary series.  Telling my story in an open and creative way really set me free.  And it was incredibly fun!

I now support others who are have exited cults and high-control groups and want help express their experience creatively, in a safe space. No pressure, ideology, or group think. Go at your own pace and re-claim your voice.

How I Can Help You

You may not know exactly what you want to create yet and that’s completely okay.

I offer one-on-one creative support to help you:

  • Make sense of your experience

  • Find your own voice again

  • Choose a creative medium that feels right

  • Hone your creative skills and knowledge

  • Tell your story through writing, performance, storytelling, even music

  • Work creatively without being pushed or re-traumatized

All sessions are private, paced to your comfort level, and focused on what feels right for you.

Where Life Meets Art

At 12, I was brought into my aunt’s spiritual group and became a devoted disciple of the Indian guru she helped bring to the NYC in the 1960s. While my early experiences felt uplifting, the strict rules around celibacy and personal freedom became increasingly stifling as I grew up. Leaving was painful, especially with my family still deeply involved.

Eventually, after years of therapy and personal growth work, I found the freedom to pursue my passions in acting and filmmaking and to acknowledge the group for what it truly was: a cult. I wrote and performed "Nephew of the Universe", a whimsical solo show about my experience, which was a powerful step in my healing. That show is now being developed into a documentary series.

I’ve also worked professionally as an actor, screenwriter, director, and registered counselor, leading personal growth workshops in Canada and the US. Now through Creative Exit, I help people transform cult experiences into creative works that foster healing and freedom.
